Funeral services for Mrs. Shirley B. Washington will be held Friday, October 2, 2020 at 11 am at First Estill Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held today from 4 to 7 pm in the chapel of Garvin and Garvin Funeral Home in Estill, SC. Shirley B. Washington, 79, peacefully departed this earthly life on Friday, September 25, 2020, at her residence in Estill, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Ollie E. Brown and born in Hampton County, South Carolina on October 5, 1940. Shirley attended and graduated from the Estill Training School. She later became the first Secretary for the same Training School. As Secretary, Shirley was captivated by her night and shining armor, Ishmel Washington, Jr. They were united in holy matrimony for 54 loving years. Raised in a Christian home, Shirley was a lifetime member of First Estill Baptist Church, were she served in many capacities as Member of the Missionary Society, Member of the Pastor's Aide Club, Junior and Senior Choir Financial Recording Secretary and Custodian. Shirley loved gospel music and church programs; and enjoyed travelling locally and long distance to attend gospel programs with her friends. She leaves to cherish precious memories: her loving husband, Ishmel Washington, Jr; a daughter, Vonzetta (Kenneth) Strong of Estill, SC; brother, Kenneth (Mary Ann) Atkins, Sr, of Estill, SC; four brother- in-laws, Johnnie (Priscilla) Washington, Jimmy (Sandra) Washington, Melvin "Glen" (Betty) Washington and Perry (Rhonda) Washington; sister-in-law, Lillian Washington; two nieces, Zylthia C. Atkins and Erin "Taniqua" Martinez; two grandnieces, Tanirah Z. Weinkiper and Amilia T. Martinez, of Pooler, GA; nephew, Kenneth (Angelica) Atkins, Jr, of California; special cousins, Cora Mincey and Dorothy Denegal. A special thanks to Gregory "E" King as assistant caregiver and friend. And a host of loving relatives, close friends, church members and other caregivers too numerous to list, but regarded as family.
