Funeral services for Rose Edna Wright will be held Friday, April 23, 2021 at
11 am at Breller Field Cemetery. Family private viewing will be held Thursday,
April 22, 2021 from 1to 5 pm in the chapel of Garvin and Garvin Funeral Home.
Rose Edna "Doll" Wright was the fifth child born to parents James & Lila Cuyler-
Tice on September 8 th of 1935 in Garnett, South Carolina. At birth, her mother Lila
called her "doll baby," and she was affectionately referred to as 'Doll' by those
who knew her intimately, ever since. Rose's formative years were spent attending
The Mill Stream Elementary School in Hampton County, South Carolina. At age
12, Rose deferred her middle school education, which enabled her to work and
assist her parents in the household.
In 1949, Rose relocated to Long Island, New York where she worked for several
years as a domestic caretaker. During this time, she assisted her elder sister,
Beaulah, with raising her two children, Terry and Richard. She would travel
between South Carolina and New York up until she married Robert Alexander
Wright on June 14 th of 1953 in Hampton County, South Carolina.
From this union, six children were born. They are Emily J. Small of Lawnside, NJ;
Kenneth R. Wright of Jersey City, NJ (Spouse: Laurie); Donald O. Wright of Port
St. Lucie, FL (Spouse: Twana); Ronald O. Wright of Fort Lauderdale, FL (Spouse:
Marlowe); and Kevin J. Wright of Walterboro, SC. Rose was predeceased by her
husband, Robert A. Wright, and by her third born, Roger J. Wright, Sr., formally of
Garnett, SC (Spouse: Barbara). Additionally, she was predeceased by her siblings:
Catherine Edwards, John Edwards, Gladys Tice, and Beaulah Brown.
In 1967, Rose and Robert relocated to Jersey City, NJ. Despite her role as a wife,
co-provider, and mother of six, Rose, committed to her pursuit of education,
returned to school to complete her GED. She had a penchant for numbers and was
known to excel in mathematics. She was a devout Christian and is remembered for
her early Sunday morning worship services. In 1999, Rose, Robert, and their
youngest child, Kevin, returned to the South and relocated to Walterboro, SC to
live.
Rose Edna Wright, age 85, ascended to glory the evening of Friday, April 9 th , 2021,
while at Trident Medical Center in Summerville, SC. Her passing follows several
years of battling chronic illness. In addition to her five children, Doll is survived
by her baby sister, Ernestine Johnson, brother-in-law Jasper Brown, and godson
Franklin Edward. Her legacy includes 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren,
and 2 great-great grandchildren.
