Funeral services for Mrs. Pheobe Mae Cohen Williams will be held Sunday, June 6, 2021 at 1pm at Mount Sinai Baptist Church with burial in the Frampton Cemetery in Varnville, South Carolina. Public viewing will be held Saturday, June 5, 2021 in the chapel of Garvin and Garvin Funeral Home.
Pheobe Mae Cohen Williams fondly known by her husband as "Lucy" was born on April 24, 1958,
to the late J C and Queen Ester Cohen. After an extended illness, at Memorial Health University
Medical Center, Savannah, Georgia, Pheobe's spirit went back to God, who gave it.
Pheobe was educated in the Hampton County public school system. She attended Estill High School.
Pheobe was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Varnville, South Carolina.
She was an affectionate giver. Pheobe loved people and would do anything for them, her family and
especially her grands. She is preceded in death by her parents; two children, Shakria and Marvin Cohen; two brothers, Kennedy and Baby Boy Cohen; and three sisters, Perline Walker, Percila Walker and Luvina Cohen.
Pheobe leaves to cherish fond memories: a loving husband of the home, Earnest Williams; three sons,
Michael Cohen of Hardeeville, SC, Justin (Alexis) Cohen of Bluffton, SC and Jacoby Gant of
Hampton, SC; three brothers, Rubin Cohen of the home, Michael Cohen of Lena, SC and J C Cohen
of Furman, SC; six sisters, Ollie Mae (Nathaniel) Williams of Illinois, Lillian (Edd) Holmes of Lena,
SC, Ruthie Cohen of Hampton, SC, Earline Roberts, Jenny R. Johnson of Furman, SC and Rose Ann
Walker; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Ann Johnson of Luray, SC and Faye Cohen of Varnville, SC;
brothers-in-law, Ronald (Janice) Devore of Allendale, SC, Willie Best of Albany, GA, Rodney Best of
Fredericksburg, VA and Raynaldo Best of Charlotte, NC; eleven aunts, Pastor Loretta Darien of
Pineland, SC, Mae Dobson of Luray, SC, Lottie Mae Garvin of Estill, SC, Viola Shakespeare of
Savannah, Ga, Annie Mae Garvin of Yonkers, NY, Evelyn Scott, Lizzie Taylor of Estill, SC, Betty
Dobson, Marie Dobson, Hattie Walker and Emily Hines; two adopted sisters, Andrea (McArthur)
Williams and Annette Taylor of Estill, SC; four grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
