Funeral services for Mrs. Miriam Powell will be held Thursday,
September 2, 2021 at 11 am at First Thankful Baptist Church Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held Wednesday from 5 to 6 pm in the chapel of
Garvin and Garvin Funeral Home in Estill, SC. Miriam Louise Washington
Powell was born on November 19, 1957 to the late Dessie Lee Heyward
and Booker Thomas Washington. She departed this life on August 26,
2021 at Coastal Carolina in Hardeeville, SC. Miriam received her
education from Estill Training School in Estill, SC. At an early age she
joined and attended Lovewell Baptist Church in Lena, SC.
While still in high school, Miriam and her family moved to Conway, SC.
There she met and married Fred Powell. She leaves to cherish her fond
memories: Two sons-Dennis Leon Washington of Conway, SC. and
Freddie Lee (Nicki) Washington of Little River, SC. One sister-Gracie Lee
Johnson of Ridgeland, SC. and one brother-Brooker T. Washington of
Ridgeland, SC. Seven grandchildren, A special aunt-Emily Reed of
Estill,SC. A special friend of the home Kyoko Garner of Ridgeland, SC.
and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
