Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Brown Monroe will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021
at 11 am at the Goodhope Baptist Church Cemetery. Public viewing will be held Friday from 5 to
7 pm in the chapel of Garvin and Garvin Funeral Home in Estill, SC. Mrs. Mary Eunice Brown-
Monroe was born in Hampton County, South Carolina on February 10, 1962, to the Late George
and Rosella Fields Brown. She was the baby of fourteen children. Mary was educated in the
Hampton County School System. She graduated from Estill High School Class of 1980. Mary also
attended the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Hampton, SC where she received her
Certified Nursing Assistant certificate at Denmark Technical College in Denmark, South Carolina.
She also received training at South Carolina Criminal Academy where she attained her
certification to work with Hardeeville Police Department as a 911 Dispatcher. At an early age
Mary became member of Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church Inc. She served faithfully as
Director, Lead Songstress and Treasurer for many years of the Young Adult Choir. She also
helped direct the Burison's Little Shepherds under leadership of the Late Reverend Benjamin
Burison. When Reverend Dr. Joe Henry Steve Jr. became our spiritual leader, Mary served a
short tenue as our Sunday School Teacher. Mary was very active in the church. She challenged
all the choir members to do the best they could and made sure we didn't stop until we got it
right. Singing was her joy and she sung to the glory of God. Mary, also known as "Barbara Ann,"
to those close to her, married the love of her life the late Henry Nathan Monroe, who sadly
preceded her in death on February 9, 2010. Together they raised four beautiful children. She
especially enjoyed her five grandbabies whom she spoiled whenever she had the chance to.
Mary enjoyed going to church, singing on the choir, praise teams, participating in choir
programs and any event where she was needed. She didn't mind uplifting people with her
incredibly gifted voice. Sadly, on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 3:30 am at Florence MUSC
Hospital in Florence South Carolina, Mary passed away. She will be missed greatly by all who
knew her. She is survived by her four children: Annie (Eldred) Busby of Estill, SC; Stephone
