Margaret Pinkney Drayton was born on September 19, 1935 in Estill, South Carolina to the late Joseph Pinckney and Lucille Crumbley Pinckney.
She graduated from Woodville High School (now known as Tompkins High School) in Garden City, Georgia. After high school she completed her undergraduate studies in Elementary Education from Savannah State College now University. While at Savannah State she pledged the Rho Beta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. And was a charter member of the Effingham Chapter of the Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc.
She began her teaching career at Springfield Central High School in Springfield, Georgia. She and continued in education until retiring from public school teaching in1991 at Effingham County High School.
Margaret was joined in marriage to Cornelius Leroy Drayton on July 24, 1957. That union was blessed with two daughters, Michelle and Elaine Drayton.
Margaret was a faithful member of Richmond Missionary Baptist Church in Port Wentworth, Georgia and a pioneer of the Victory Bible Fellowship in Savannah. When she relocated to Atlanta, she joined World Changers Church International in College Park.
Margaret leaves her legacy of love to her children Michelle and Elaine Drayton,; nieces, Angela Reed, Kimberly Solomon, Thaiece Cope, and Faquita Berry; Nephews Michael Pinckney (Sharon) of Anchorage Alaska, Gregory Pinckney of Washington DC, Keith Solomon (Maria) and Bernard Solomon. Honorary nieces and nephew, Lucette Day, Connie Day McClinton, Betty Solomon Butler, and John Day (Yardyn). One Aunt, Christine Pinckney Owens; Special Sister, Soror and Best Friend, Elsie Day; Godson, David Hollingsworth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lucile Pinckney and both siblings, Joe Pinckney, Jr. and Mitlene Pinckney Solomon.
