St. Sister Dorothy Brunson was born on October 22, 1933, to the late James Haygood and the late
Celia Bell Wilson.
St. Brunson attended the public schools of Hampton and Beaufort Counties. She was united in holy
matrimony to St, Elder L. J. Brunson for sixty-one (61) years and to this union five children were
born.
At an early age, she joined The House of Prayer. St. Sister Brunson served diligently until her
death. She and her husband relocated to Stamford, Connecticut. pursuing a better life for
themselves and their children. St. Brunson received her Beautician's license from the Westchester
School of Beauty Culture in Mt. Vernon, New York.
St. Brunson was an excellent cook. She enjoyed preparing meals for her family, friends, church
family and community. Mostly, she was an awesome example of Faithfulness, Forgiveness,
Friendship, and Love.
On March 28, 2023, the death angel came and bore the sweet spirit of our dear mother to a land that
is free from sickness, pain and death, to a Heavenly Home of Rest.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, St. Elder L. J. Brunson, two sons, Lonnie, Jr,
and Clyde Grant, a grandson, Jerrell Brown, and a great granddaughter, Kailyn Miller.
She leaves to her loving memories: two sons, Napoleon Brunson (Rebecca Atkins) and Johnathan
Brunson, both of Scotia, SC; two daughters, Carolyn B. Brown, of Scotia, SC and Sharonda
Nimmons, of Bluffton, SC; one sister, Rosalie White, of Virginia Beach, VA; two brothers-in-law,
William Cohen (Thelma), of New York, NY and Johnny O'Banner, of Springfield, MA; four
sisters-in-law, Sadie (James) Rimes, of Philadelphia, PA, Blondell Pierce, of Smithfield, VA,
Glorine Wilson, of Philadelphia, PA and Berline Brunson, of Texas; one aunt-in-law, Gloria Small,
of Estill, SC; nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; a special cousin, Lille Mae (Mack)
Ferguson, of Delaware; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
