Funeral services for Deacon Dan Willie James Garvin will be held Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 10am at Garvin's Trucking Field in Estill, South Carolina with burial in the Solomon Crossroad Cemetery in Estill, South Carolina. Public viewing will be held Friday from 6 to 8 pm in the chapel of Garvin and Garvin Funeral Home in Estill, SC.

Deacon Dan Willie James "J-Bird" Garvin was born on December 2, 1957 in Hampton County, South Carolina to the late Wesley "Tuiz" Garvin and Edith (Horace) Spell Beckett. He transitioned from this life to his eternal rest on August 26, 2020. Deacon Dan Willie James attended Estill High School  and graduated with the class of 1975. Deacon Dan Willie James was an active father and grandfather to his children and grandchildren. Deacon Dan Willie James accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior as a member of Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church at a young age, under the leadership of Pastor Brunson and now Rev. Joe Steve. He became a Deacon at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in 2004. He served on the deacon board as a dedicated deacon for 16 years on Ward V. He loved his family and church family. He served as a faithful Sunday school teacher. He was a dedicated deacon represented of Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church for Good Hope Deacon Joy Night, Good Hope Union, Good Hope Deacon Union Board, etc. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren; telling everybody he knows of how proud he was of his children and their successful careers. He studied at Voorhees College in Denmark, South Carolina and later enlisted in the military as a Navy Seal. After returning from the military he lived in Jersey City, New Jersey where he worked as a security guard and truck driver. Then later relocated to Estill, South Carolina where he worked as an officer in Estill and Hampton County. After his career as an officer, he had spent tremendous years as a truck driver for several companies. Which he loved doing until he entered his enteral life.

Deacon Dan Willie James is survived by his beloved wife of forty-two years, Marshell Garvin of the home; his children Lashea Garvin, Tarmel Garvin, Shaniquah & Shadiquah Garvin, Shakira (Joseph) Garvin, and Jalisha McKay. His grandchildren Deondre, Sha'niah, Mylasia, Kindle, Tymarean, Sy'Mir, Milan, Tarlo, Messiah, Kelsey, and Kordel. Two sisters Brenda Beckett and Tywineue Beckett Small; four brothers Anthony (Gwendolyn) Beckett, Dallas (Gretta) Beckett, Stanley (Delma) Beckett, and Derrick Beckett. Sisters and brother-in-laws Mary Ann Green, Bertha Bostick, Georgia (Craig) Beckett, Josephine Bostick, Henry Bostick, Hebert Bostick, Timothy Bostick, and Leroy Stokes. Three aunts Annie Brown, Carolyn Garvin, and Richardean Garvin. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends he loved. Special nephew and nieces Kendall Smalls, Ty'Kira Smalls, Moneshia Stokes, and Ladeidra Stokes-Roberts. As a work son and daughter Timothy Betties and Ajetta Harris. Special cousins Patricia Ellis and Tienesha Mathis. Devoted friends Rev. Tyrone Beckett, Jimmy Lee Gordon, Morris Lawyer, and Albert Gordon.
