Funeral services for Mr. Clayton Anthony Johnson, Sr. will be held Sunday, February 14, 2021 at 11 am at Revelation Ministries in Fairfax, South . Public viewing will be held from 3 to 7 pm Saturday, February 13, 2021 in the chapel of Garvin and Garvin Funeral Home in Estill, South Carolina. Clayton Anthony Johnson, Sr. was born in Hampton County, SC on July 19, 1958 to the late Virgin Johnson, Sr. & his first love, Mary Ann Washington Johnson. Clayton entered eternal rest on Wednesday, February 11, 2021 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. At an early age he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and was baptized at the Goodwill Baptist Church in Estill, SC. He later joined Revelation Ministries, Fairfax, SC where he served as an armor bearer until his death.
Clayton was a graduate of Estill High School Class of 1977, Estill, SC. He went on to serve in the United States Navy. Clayton's selfless commitment to helping others lead him to a career as a police officer serving the Town of Yemassee, Town of Estill, Hampton County Sheriff's Office and he recently retired from the Town of Varnville. He reached the rank of Lieutenant. Clayton operated the family farm which has existed for several generations. Clayton's passion was hunting, and he was a great hunter. According to him, very few big ones got away. To know Clayton was to love him. He was blessed with a large heart and an infectious smile.
Clayton was married to the love of his life, Barbara Ann Best Johnson for over 28 years.
He leaves to cherish his beautiful and loving memory: a loving and devoted wife, Barbara Ann Best Johnson of the home; six children: Clayton Antonio Williams, Anderson, SC, Marie Antanette (Franklin) Dunbar, Fairfax, SC, Shakota Oranerra Johnson, Rocky Mount, NC, Hannah Keturah Johnson and Clayton Anthony Johnson, Jr., Luray, SC, and Christopher Johnson, Charlotte, NC. a loving and devoted mother: Mary Ann Johnson, Seven grandchildren: Jalen Williams, Tamara Williams, McKenzie Hill, Zhi'Yanna Haynes, Uziah, Zhuri, and Zhukari Dunbar.
The Johnson family is a large and loving family. Clayton's siblings: his brother and best friend, Bishop Virgin (Charlene) Johnson, Jr, Orangeburg, SC, Virgil (Tamika) Johnson, Charlotte, NC, Thomas (Jennifer) Dawkins, Estill, SC and Anna Dora (Alferd) Dobson who preceded him in death. Nieces and nephews: Phoenix Johnson, Virgil Johnson, Jr. Adra (Ronald) Roberts, Shawntina Miller, Cassandra Patrice Dobson, Taylor Johnson, Virgin Johnson, III, and Alferd Dobson. Uncle: Star (Fannie Lee) Johnson, Nathaniel Beckett. Aunts: Evelyn Smoak, Julia Mae Overstreet, Cora Lee Jones, Rebecca Johnson.
Godchildren: Dantesha (Andrae) Sabb, Robert Busby, Jr., Jeantaviene Dobson, Dalisha Dobson, and Ja'Quez Best Haynes. Brothers-in-law: Ronald (Janice) Devore, Allendale, SC, Ernest (Phoebe) Williams, Estill, SC, Rodney Best, Fredericksburg, VA, Willie Best, Albany, GA, and Raynaldo Best, Charlotte, NC. Close cousins: Elliott Duncan, John E. Duncan, Dublin Johnson, Jr., Corine Miller, Martha Duncan, Mamie Jenkins, Sarah Ayers, Greg Smoak, Loretta Wright, Rose Williams, Birdie Johnson, Larry Johnson, and Michael Johnson. Friends like brothers: Anthony Russell, Tyrone Smith, Isaac Isham and a host of aunts, uncles, other cousins, relatives and sympathizing friends. Garvin and Garvin is in charge of services.
