Obituary

Anna B. Tyson was born February 28, 1927 in Hampton County, SC. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Maude Singleton Goodwater. She departed this life @7:24 AM on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at St. Luke- Mt. Sinai Hospital after a short illness. She attended the public schools of Fairfax, SC graduating high school. Relatives in New York City encouraged her to come up North to work which included sleep-in domestic jobs, steam presser and lunchroom attendant. In 1951, on a trip back home, she met the late Mr. Alexander Tyson a musician; who proceeded her in death in April 1999. They was married soon after and to this union six children were born. One son Mr. Cary B. Tyson proceed her in death in October 2002.

At an early age Anna accepted Christ and throughout her adult life wanted to share the "food news" of our Lord and Savior. As a young adult, she joined St. Peter AME Church in Gifford, SC. Then she returned to New York in 1966, where she joined St. Luke AME Church under the leadership of Rev. Richard R. Stokes. She was appointed as a Class Leader, was a member of Stewardess Board #4, and member of the Emma S. Freeman Missionary Society Circle 4 and Gospel Chorus. She loved her family and friends. Amtrak was her favorite way to travel especially to see her one and only sister Rena. Anna was down to earth, short and cute and most importantly a joy to be around with her contagious sense of humor and infectious smile.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are: Mrs. Rena Mae Blake, Estill South Carolina. Five children, Ms. Patricia Adderley, New York, Queenie (McArthur)Harris, Bronx, NY, Alexander Tyson, New York, Alphonso Tyson, New York, Veronica E. Tyson, Bronx, NY. One son in law, McArthur Harris, Daughter in law, Geneva Tyson, Sister-in-law Queen Ester Tyson, special sons, Jerry Samuel, Malsworth and Alexander Blake; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 1 godson and 3 god daughters; a host of nieces, nephews and other loved ones and friends at the Amsterdam Adult Day Care Center and Phipps (Echo Apartments) NYC.
